Bethnal Green Transition (initiated by myself and Akashadevi over a year ago!) is in the midst of setting up a food-growing garden on a piece of green in the midst of a local estate - just beside Westbrook House. If you live on the estate, or nearby, and would like to get involved, please contact either myself, or Shraddhapushpa at susypowlesland@gmail.com  If it's to happen, we need lots of people to help!Quite a few folks from the LBC sangha are…See More

Urban retreat - what a cracker!

Here I am again, dear readers, to tell you a little of my urban retreat experience. Last year, when I was still living in Edinburgh, I attended my first urban retreat. There were 4 of us on it, and I enjoyed it very much. This year's retreat, with over 300 people on it, was even more amazing. On the day retreat that began the week-long retreat, there were around 120 folk trying to squeeze into the shrine room, and by some Vimalakirti-type miracle we managed to fit everyone in. We set our…See More

Bethnal Green Transition Town event

Here I am again, dear readers, to tell you a little about what happened at our BGTT evening last Wednesday. Despite the teeming rain, an intrepid band of nine people turned up to the rather quirky venue at the Hurwundeki cafe, a space which features the brick walls of the old railway arches right beside Cambridge Heath railway station. A fitting venue for our event, we thought, being itself recycled! We showed the documentary 'In Transition' which has been produced by the Transition network to…See More

Reception is fun!

I've been a back-up person on the reception desk for a few months now, and recently I decided I'd become a 'regular', so I'm on duty on Tuesday afternoons from now on. All kinds of things happen here at the reception desk. Sometimes, as now, it's very quiet; other times, there are school visits, and different classes all happening either simultaneously or one after the other. Lunch-time drop-in meditation classes are increasingly popular, it seems, and the bookshop usually does a good trade…See More
